Glenn's A9X Torana

This vehicle was purchased new at Ron Hodgson Motors in Cabramatta, N.S.W.  It was fitted with the “Bathurst Special” 2.60 final drive ratio, M21 gearbox and of course the special suspension and braking changes. I once owned an SS hatch that I spent plenty on to go around corners, and found the A9X  was as good, if not better, in standard form!

The four wheel discs are a big leap forward from previous systems fitted. And did you know the A9X was the first production Holden with four wheel discs as standard? I use it when I can for sprint events, put it on show, and generally find just about any excuse available to take it for a run. “Don't want the battery going flat” usually does it!!

When I purchased it, it was painted a one-off dark metallic green. It looked pretty good I thought, until we had to re-paint it to original for Torana the Great at Bathurst in 2004. I can't imagine it looking any better than it does in the Palais White and semi-gloss black, as it is now.

Having driven this car very hard on the track, I can fully understand why they were such a great race car. It communicates with you so well, and is so easy to drive fast. It is very forgiving and controllable, you really can hang the tail out in total control, yes, the grin factor is HUGE!!!
